Phone and Internet temporarily out of service for much of county

Telephone and Internet service within Cook County has been disrupted by a severed fiber line in the Tofte area.
Not all Internet customers have lost service, but many have. Phone service is available within the same phone exchange, for example callers in the 387 area can call one another, but not to 663 or 388 areas.
Most importantly, emergency 911 service is not available. Anyone needing assistance is asked to call the Fire Hall in their vicinity.
For Grand Marais, call 387-3030.
For the Gunflint Trail, call 388-0313.
For Grand Portage, call 475-2352.
For Lutsen, Tofte, Schoeder, call 663-7002.
Cook County Law Enforcement said the repair is expected to take about 10 hours, which means service should be available at 1 a.m.
