Peter “Floyd” Johnson, 79, passed away Dec. 15, 2011 doing what he loved—working side-by-side with his son Tim at the Wrecking J’s.
He was born Nov. 5, 1932 in Kerrick, Minn. to Peter and Effie Johnson. He lived his childhood in Moose Lake until he moved to Grand Marais in 1950. He then met Jean Ann Berg and they married on May 16, 1953.
Floyd was then drafted for the Korean War, where he served in the Radar Unit, and was discharged in 1955.
Floyd and Jean then returned to Grand Marais where he bought into Standard Oil and started a bulk plant business for 20 years. Then he and his son Tim started the Wrecking J’s.
Floyd enjoyed many activities including curling, hunting, camping, fixing up old cars, telling stories and most important, spending his time with the loves of his life—his grandchildren. There was nothing more important to him than his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mildred and his twin brother Denny.
He is survived by his wife Jean; sons Wayne (Wendy) Johnson of Minneapolis and Timothy (Kristen) of Grand Marais; daughter Kathi Kim (John) Smith of Grand Marais; grandsons Michael, Nicholas, Kyler and Cooper; and granddaughters Dakota and Kamryn.
