Shawn Perich of Hovland has been reappointed as a representative to the Minnesota Forest Resources Council (MFRC). The announcement was made recently by Gov. Mark Dayton.
Perich’s new term became effective April 13 and runs through Jan. 7, 2019. Perich is a longstanding member of MFRC, first appointed by Governor Jesse Ventura.
MFRC is a state council established by the Sustainable Forest Resources Act (SFRA) of 1995 to promote long-term sustainable management of Minnesota’s forests.
In a conversation after his reappointment was announced, Perich said it is important that Cook County be represented on MFRC. He said, “The county contains extensive holdings of national and state forest land that is managed for timber production.”
Perich said MFRC has developed voluntary forest management guidelines to ensure our forests are managed sustainably. “The MFRC also advises the governor and legislature about a multitude of issues pertaining to the state’s forest and forest industry.”
MFRC goals include pursuit of sustainable management, use, and protection of the state’s forest resources to achieve the state’s economic, environmental, and social goals; encourage cooperation and collaboration between public and private sectors in the management of the state’s resources; and recognize and consider forest resource issues, concerns and impacts at the site and landscape levels. “MFRC activities matter,” said Perich.
Other members of the Site-Level Forest Management Committee include Dave Parent, chair; Bob Lintelmann; Mary Richards; Dale Erickson; and Gene Merriam.
