On occasion, everyone needs to toot their own horn, and for those former and current Cook County High School band members, your chance is here.
Pep band players and directors are needed for the second annual Cook County Alumni Football Game on Saturday, July 1. This event is a major fundraiser for school activities.
CCHS band alumni who want to once again play all the greats like Louie Louie, Wipe Out, Iron Man, Tequila, and the school song, please join us, said Tina Hegg, who is organizing the band.
Even if you didn’t attend CCHS—or teach here— Hegg invites you as well.
“Are you a musician from the North Shore who knows how to play an instrument or two and can learn sheet music? Join us! Nontraditional instruments welcome, we’ll find a place for you.
“Are you a spirited person who would love to help make this game put the fun in fundraiser by banging on a teakettle with a stick in time to the music because that’s all the training you’ve got? Join us!”
Interested parties, please email Tina at cmhegg@gmail.com with your name, current city, and instrument.
“It’s OK if you haven’t played in a while, this is for fun! We may have some instruments available to borrow from the school. We have access to the school’s sheet music collection and will set up a rehearsal or two as well,” said Hegg.
Last, if you are on the fence, one drumbeat away from a decision, one cowbell “clang alang alang” from joining, Hegg promises to make cookies, “just like all those years we went to State.”
