A Dollar General Store won’t hurt Grand Marais one speck. We have one grocery store and 21 churches in Mayo, Florida. Two gas stations that sell fried chicken and an old Dollar General and an old Family Dollar.
Down the road in Branford they put in a Family Dollar, a McDonald’s and a big Dollar General with groceries. We go to Big M for their frappies and Dollar General for $1 lettuce and two for $1 birthday cards. The best thing about that Dollar General is the huge landscaped parking lot and clean restrooms.
My first job in 1954 was Paradise Beach Resort. It is long gone, along with most of the other businesses and people. That’s what makes Grand Marais cool. New businesses and new people coming and going. Thrift stores are great but who wants to use a recycled birthday napkin?
