This goes out to all the people who have the privilege of having a driver’s license. Since school has started I have seen drivers from all walks of life—from locals, out-oftowners to Canadians—not paying attention and driving right through the red lights and stop arms of the school bus as it stops by my driveway to pick up or drop off my child as well as other children at this stop.
How inexcusable to think that these guilty parties are above the traffic laws and have the right to just drive on through assuming that it is safe to do so.
It isn’t. Just because there is a middle turning lane on the west side of town, does not give anyone coming in the opposite direction the right to just keep on going while the bus is stopped.
As a parent I am now taking some responsibility for keeping my kid safe by walking him across the highway so he doesn’t have to pay the ultimate price for the inattentive drivers who continuously break the law.
But do me a favor, take some responsibility as well and either go back and take a refresher course in driver’s education or just quit with the crappy driving habits and brake for a school bus!
Parents, bus drivers, and kids everywhere will thank you for it.
