Pavement work on Gunflint Trail to begin June 2

The $2 million bituminous replacement project on the Gunflint Trail (CSAH 12) is scheduled to begin the week of June 2, 2014. It is anticipated that it will be completed in early August, the Cook County Highway Department announced on May 28.

Ulland Brothers of Cloquet, Minnesota, will be the contractor for the 4.8-mile project, which runs from Fox Ridge Road to the Cross River. The project includes repair or replacement of numerous culverts, removal of the existing pavement, and placement of new bituminous pavement. Alignments and profiles will not be corrected as part of this project.

According to County Engineer David Betts, traffic will be restricted to one lane as culverts are replaced. He urged motorists to plan accordingly and to drive with caution in all work zones.
