Paul William Brandt, 81, of Poplar Lake, Grand Marais, died near his home on the Gunflint Trail doing what he most enjoyed, picking blueberries.
Paul was born the oldest of three sons to Carl A. and Alis (Swenson) Brandt at Poplar Lake on the Gunflint Trail. A lifelong resident of the Gunflint Trail, Paul, with his family, operated Balsam Grove Lodge, now Nor’Wester Lodge. Paul was responsible for maintaining buildings and facilities until he retired.
Paul enjoyed an active outdoor lifestyle, enjoying hunting, snowmobiling and berry picking. Paul had a strong faith that was evident in his life and relationships.
He was a member of Cornerstone Community Church in Grand Marais where he served as an usher.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and by nephews Brian and Daniel.
He is survived by his brothers Jerome (Patricia) Brandt of Grand Marais and Carl (Luana) Brandt of Poplar Lake, Grand Marais; nephew and nieces, Beverly Starnal (Cary), David Brandt, Kristine Buckman (Barry), Karyn Brandt (Tim), and Kathryn Brandt; and great-nephews and-nieces, Alex and Kory Buckman, Aryanna, Trystan, Anyka, and Kalyn Brandt -Dedeker, and Deborah Starnal.
The community is invited to a celebration of life at 1 p.m. and funeral at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 23 at Cornerstone Community Church in Grand Marais. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
