Paul Taylor Fleming

Paul Taylor Fleming, father, poet, writer and avid outdoorsman passed from this earth April 19, 2015 at 62 years old.

Paul grew up in a military family, attending school from Indiana to Alaska. He was an all-star basketball and football player, class president and brilliant writer. He attended college at Purdue University.

His reverence for the outdoors brought him to the North Shore, avidly hunting and fishing. He was an expert guide and a passionate preservationist; participating in the “sacred” art of hunting. He was a master wild game chef, always taking impeccable care of his catch.

He was part of the small committee who began the Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, and raced and trained sled dogs himself.

He loved the area, and no matter where life brought him—he always returned to the North Shore.

He is survived by his brothers Dr. Peter (Ruth Anne), Philip (Barbara), his only daughter, Emily Claire (Tim Haussner) and his three granddaughters Claire, Molly and Charlotte Renee.

He was preceded in death by his parents Col. Samuel F. Fleming and Virginia S. Fleming.

A memorial potluck/ tailgate will be held during his favorite event of the year—the “Indianapolis 500 Race,” 11:30 a.m., Sunday May 24 at the Kadunce River on Highway 61. All are welcome.

In lieu gifts or flowers, please donate to your favorite land/nature conservation cause in his honor. Yes, you saw my eyes again. On that illusive prey you sought. Only a glimpse of record catch. Sighted—never caught. (From one of Paul’s final writings)
