Had his family stayed in the county, Paul Dorr would be a senior on the Vikings’ boys’ basketball team now. Instead, the 6’4” senior guard is the sixth man on the 15-2 Holy Family Catholic (Victoria) boys’ basketball team. The 2A school boasts three 6’11” players, all seniors, two of which are headed to Division 1 colleges out of state. Paul’s grandfather, Dick Dorr, has gone to see his grandson play three times. “The kids there have embraced Paul. You never know when you are new how that will go. He’s not a big scorer, but he rebounds well and distributes the ball to open players. He mostly comes off the bench, but he’s had three starts because one of the big guys was injured.”
Paul’s father, Mitch Dorr, an assistant Principal and longtime basketball and football coach, left I.S.D. 166 after serving for 24 years in 2021 to accept the principal position at Saint John the Baptist Catholic School in Jordan, Minnesota. Paul and his older brother Jacob stayed for the school year, and Jacob graduated in 2022 from CCHS.
Dick said while Paul loves basketball, his grandson’s favorite sport is still baseball. Dick said Paul had a tryout with Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, earlier in the year, and after the workout, the coach offered him a college scholarship to come and play, which Paul accepted. Paul is an outstanding pitcher and center fielder. During his time at CCHS, Paul was an honor roll student and earned first-team all-conference honors in football (quarterback) and All-Polar League honors for basketball and was one of the best players on the baseball team.
