Paul David Anderson, Grand Marais, died on May 14 at the Veteran’s Home in Silver Bay where his 13-year journey with dementia ended with grace and serenity.
Born on October 16, 1925 to Florence and Herman “Andy” Anderson, Paul enjoyed an idyllic boyhood near the woods and shores of Lake Minnetonka in Excelsior. In his future, the U.S. Navy, college, marriage and fatherhood. Then a chance meeting at a meeting in 1987 brought him full circle.
For the last 23 years of his life Paul lived with his wife, Vicki Biggs- Anderson on a hundredyear old wooded farm uphill from Lake Superior just 17 miles past Grand Marais. He lives on in Vicki’s columns, Magnetic North, on WTIP community radio and on the miles of trails he blazed through their woods. Paul Anderson absolutely loved life in all its facets and it loved him back.
Paul is predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (Gorgan), brother Jim, nephew Jim Stark, stepgrandson Andrew, brother-in law, Paul Stark.
He is survived by his wife Vicki, her daughter Gretchen (Les) Becherer and grandchildren Jackson and Jane; daughter Loree (Matthew) Miltich, grandchildren Nathanya, Mateya and Sam (Katie Marshall), and great-grandchildren Evo and Leo; daughter Maud (Brian) Duggan and grandchildren Finn and Lucia; and sister Nina Stark of Excelsior.
Services will be on June 22 at the First Congregational Church, Grand Marais at 3 p.m. Interment at Maple Hill Cemetery, Grand Marais.
Memorials in lieu of flowers preferred to Care Partners of Cook County, Southern Poverty Law Center or donor’s choice.
