Patricia “Pat” Martin completed her earthly journey on October 7, 2018, at the North Shore Care Center, with her oldest daughter at her side.
Born on July 27, 1934, to Orville and Agatha Patterson in Denham, Minnesota, she married Clarence Martin in 1951. One year later, she graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Duluth.
Pat and Clarence moved to Grand Marais after his tour of duty in the Army, and Pat began working at the local hospital soon after it opened in 1958. In the early 1970s, she took a new job at the clinic, where she worked until her retirement. She was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church for over 50 years, and she devoted a great deal of time to the Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a local 4-H leader.
Pat loved traveling, dancing and cabin life on Devil’s Track. She loved to go camping, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling, and she enjoyed painting, tasting new foods, and learning new things. She lived a good life.
Pat is survived by her daughters Misha (New Mexico), Melody (Minnesota), and Mary Kay (Texas), and her grandchildren Christopher Lopez (Hawaii) and Rachel Lopez (Texas). She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, her brother David, and her parents.
A funeral service will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Monday the 15th of October after visitation at 10 a.m. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic, with “Mental Health Services Access, in memory of Patricia Martin” on the memo line, or to Cook County Senior Center, with “Operation Family Christmas, in memory of Patricia Martin” on the memo line.
