Pastor Gordon Otis Lindemann




Pastor Gordon Otis Lindemann, “Gordy,” husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, co-worker in the Lord’s Vineyard. Born to life on October 9, 1920 entered Eternal Life March 30, 2011.

Gordon was preceded in death by son Christopher Martin; parents William and Edna; brothers Willard, Milton, Gilbert and sister Margaret.

He is survived by his loving wife Marie (nee Sundquist); sons Noah (Gena), Joel (Mary), Daniel (Diane); daughter Marjorie; grandchildren Madeleine, Caroline, Ann, Benjamin, Zachary, Andrew, Joseph; stepgranddaughter Ashley; great-grandsons Cooper and Luke; other relatives and friends in the Lord.

Pro Deo Et Patria. Truly, it could be said of Gordy’s ministry of Word and Sacrament that it was for God and Country. The world was Gordon’s parish.

He served as a Navy Hospital Corpsman in World War II; as a Missionary with his wife Marie to Liberia, West Africa; as Navy Chaplain on troop ships during the Korean War; Chaplain with the First Marine Air Wing DaNang, Viet Nam; National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland; Veterans Medical Center, Marion, Indiana; and parishes in Minnesota, New Mexico and Ontario, Canada.

In preparation for ordained ministry, Gordon was awarded a BA degree from the University of Minnesota and graduate studies, and a Master of Divinity degree from Northwestern Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Gordon was a member of College of Chaplains, Clinical Pastoral Association, Order of St. Luke, Naval Reserve, American Legion, National Honor Society, Harding High Hall of Stars, and along with his wife, Marie was voted “Senior Citizens of the Year” in 2002 in Cook County.

He was a member of Realife Phalen Village Co-Op and most important of all, an active church member of Roseville Lutheran Church, Roseville, MN.

Memorial services were held at Roseville Lutheran Church, Roseville on Tuesday, April 5. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Dispensary, Orphanage and Schools of the Lutheran Church at Sanoyea, Liberia, West Africa.

Richard ‘Dick’ Kainz, age 76, of Custer, SD, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Bella Vista Nursing Home in Rapid City, SD.

Dick is survived by his wife, Darlene of Custer; his children, Gregory (Sherry) Kainz of Arvada, CO; Kristi (Allen) Scott of Custer; Lisa (Michael) Schaertl of Shortsville, NY; Jeffery (Teresa) Kainz of Mt. Vernon, WA; brothers, Kenneth (Sue) Kainz and Dean (Marge) Kainz both of Custer; sisters, Gladys (Gordon) Babcock of Rapid City; Gayle (Leroy) Anderson of Custer; Grace (Gerry) Meier of Fulda, MN; Vera (Terry) Ellerton of Custer; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Custer Lutheran Fellowship Church in Custer with Pastor Tom Opoien and Pastor Kent Narum officiating. Interment will follow at the Custer Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in Dick’s name.
