North Shore Bank of Commerce presents Portraits: Fair to Fiery featuring award-winning pastel artist, Michelle Wegler.
Wegler has always been interested in red hair. Her father had red hair, and she thought her children might have red hair too. As it turned out, her two daughters are blond and her son has brown hair; even so, she remains fascinated by the physical appearance of redheads. Portraits: Fair to Fiery showcases the artist’s ability to capture translucent complexion and to render a suite of brilliant color combinations created from the contrast of red hair against fair skin. Cloaked in twinkling, nearly ephemeral hues, each portrait seems lit from within and surrounded by a celestial light.
The exhibition will be held at the North Shore Bank of Commerce, 131 W. Superior St., Duluth, May 9 through June 24.
Wegler’s pastel paintings of portraits, pets and homes have been exhibited locally and nationally and are included in private and corporate collections. She has received awards for her pastels from the Grand Marais Art Colony Plein Air Competition; Artists of Minnesota, Portrait Division; MacRostie Art Center, Annual Juried Art Exhibition; and Lake Country Pastel Society, among others. Her selected exhibition venues include the International Association of Pastel Societies, Duluth Art Institute, Center for Visual Arts, and Art Resources Gallery. The artist works from her studio in Duluth.
