Out of control brush fire extinguished quickly




Yard cleanup got away from a homeowner on the Sawbill Trail in Tofte on Sunday, May 12, just one day before countywide fire restrictions were announced. Cook County Law Enforcement received a 911 call at 2:45 p.m. from a man who reported that his neighbor’s brush pile was out of control. The Tofte Fire Department was dispatched at 2:49 and arrived on scene by 3 p.m.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and were clear of the scene by 3:49 p.m.

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Tom Wahlstrom was also called to the fire. A citation was issued to the property owner, Terry Gervais.
