At 5 p.m. Monday, October 14, more than 80 people attended a community fall feast held at the Grand Portage Community Center gym.

Hosting and preparing the meal (with some adult help) were the elementary school children of Oshki Ogimaag Charter School.

The kids harvested vegetables they planted last spring on school grounds and at the community garden in preparation for the meal.

“We had a great variety of food!” said Carmen Keyport, director of Oshki.

Lucky duck diners ate Squash Apple Soup, Vegetable Soup, Venison, Moose/Wild Rice Hot Dish, Apple Sauce, Bread,

Apple Pie and much more, said Carmen.

“All of the students and staff here at OOCS work really hard to prepare food and decorations,” added Carmen.

John Morrin spoke a few words about Indigenous People’s Day, and Billy Blackwell said a prayer.

Grand Portage community members came out in big numbers to enjoy the meal prepared by the kids and served on Indigenous People’s Day.
