One of the highlights of the AECI meeting was the announcement of Operation Round Up grants to 12 different Cook County nonprofit groups.
Since its inception, Operation Round Up has donated $195,000, spread throughout the county.
When members join the program, their bill is rounded, for example, from $72.68 to $73, and the change is donated to the Round Up trust.
Buttweiler said that AECI had received $64,934.85 in requests this year, but only had $14,182.15 to distribute. Winnowing the requests down was tough, said Buttweiler, because there were many worthy requests.
