In October 2012, the Cook County Salvation Army unit announced that while it would continue to help people in need, the organization would no longer be the primary sponsor of an important community activity called “Merry Christmas for All.” Organizers hoped that another community group would take on the task of assisting families who need a little help to put gifts under the Christmas tree. Several Grand Marais women have taken on the job of brightening the holidays through “Operation Family Christmas.” They would love to have your help!
There are a number of locations with “Operation Family Christmas” information. Families in need of a little extra help this holiday season are encouraged to stop in and fill out a form at the Cook County Law Enforcement Center at 143 Gunflint Trail or at the Violence Prevention Center in the North Shore building on First Avenue in Grand Marais.
Forms must be turned in by Tuesday, December 18. All information is confidential.
Depending on the quantity of donations, the Operation Family Christmas organizers— the “Christmas angels” will be putting boxes together and delivering to families by December 21.
Anyone with questions or to obtain the form via email, is asked to please contact Lindsay @ lindsay.mielke@ co.cook.mn.us.
