It may seem to be too early to start thinking of the holidays, but the organizers of Operation Family Christmas want to get a head start on helping those in need at Christmas. Applications are now available for Operation Family Christmas, a program designed to make sure no kid in Cook County goes without a Christmas present.

Cook County parents or legal guardians to children up to 18 years of age who have felt the financial struggle and need a little help during the holiday season may pick up an application at the front window of the Cook County Sheriff ’s Office, Violence Prevention Center, Grand Portage Human Services or from Anna Sandstrom at Cook County Schools.

All applications need to be turned in by 4 p.m. Nov. 16; late applications cannot be processed.

In its fourth year, Operation Family Christmas will place collection boxes at businesses that are willing to participate. There will also be a collection box at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Organizer Andrea Peterson said Operation Family Christmas is seeking donations of new, unwrapped gifts for kids up to 18 years old. Or if someone doesn’t know what to buy and wants to donate, checks or gift cards will be accepted. That is helpful if there is a shortage of gifts for a particular age group.
