What a better weekend then to start Operation Family Christmas on Thanksgiving weekend?
Operation Family Christmas gives you a chance to donate anonymously to a child or children who might not find anything under the Christmas tree for them on Christmas morning.
Even a small gift means a lot to someone who would get no gift at all, said Jes Rodne, who is in her fourth year as volunteer coordinator of Operation Family Christmas.
Operation Family Christmas will distribute Christmas tags at the North Shore Federal Credit Union, Grand Marais State Bank, Security State Bank, and the Cook County Community Center, on Friday, November 29. The tags will have the age, gender, and ideas for Christmas presents on them.
You simply pick up a tag(s), go shopping, and return the gifts unwrapped with each ornament tag securely fastened to the outside of the gift bag by December 17 at either the North Shore Federal Credit Union in Grand Marais or Lutsen, Security State Bank, the Grand Marais State Bank, or at the Cook County Community Center.
“We would like donations of new, unwrapped gifts for kids up to 18 years old,” said Rodne, adding that the tag is attached to the gift so that it can be returned to the place you got the tag.
“If someone wants to send in a check, I will send them back a receipt. If someone wants to purchase a gift card, I will also send him or her back a receipt. It might be easier to give older kids a gift card. Kids can be harder to shop for.
“This is all confidential. No one knows who is getting presents.
“It is important as a community that we work together to ensure that all children in our county wake up on Christmas morning and feel the magic that arrives on such a special day,” Rodne said.
