Spectrum Health Company has announced the upcoming open house of its new 34-bed Carefree Living building in Silver Bay from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 10 at 36 Bell Circle. The assisted living and memory care facility is expected to employ 20-25 people.
Ryan Companies US Inc., the Minnesota-based contractor, began construction in May with a scheduled opening on Dec. 13.
Spectrum Health Company is based in Eveleth and has extensive experience in home care, assisted living and memory care. Spectrum’s branch companies provide health and personal care services for people of all ages in all types of residential settings, and has over 500 employees in 12 Minnesota communities.
Spectrum owns the Carefree Living Assisted Living/Memory Care facilities in Brainerd, Burnsville, St. Cloud, Ely and Cook. It also owns Spectrum Cares Residential Care facilities in Virginia. Carefree Living in Cook, a 34-unit facility featuring assisted living and a memory care unit, opened in April and currently employs 30.
“We’re excited to have the opportunity to serve the people of the Silver Bay area and are confident our new facility will be an asset to the community,” said Merle Sampson, Spectrum chairman.
The 20,000-square-foot facility, which has a $3.1 million budget, was designed by DJR Architects of Minneapolis. Funding came from Spectrum Health Companies, DHS, the city of Silver Bay in the form of an IRRB infrastructure grant, and Thrivent Bank.
The Silver Bay facility will be managed by Terri Jo Ramsdell, RN. Ramsdell is a Duluth native and Silver Bay resident who has many years of nursing experience, including home care and hospice care. “We hope everyone will come to the open house and see what a wonderful place it is,” said Ramsdell.
