On August 12, 2018, there will be a Dedication and Thanksgiving Celebration at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hovland. This dedication looks forward, and also looks back. The first Highway 61 dedication for Trinity was in 1950; this year’s dedication at Trinity looks forward to finding new ways to serve the community.
The August 12, 2018 “Dedication and Thanksgiving” Open House celebrates work done in the last three years by hundreds of hands, as happened in the early years of Trinity. This has been a community, county, nationwide, and even international event—stretching to partners as far away as Norway, Switzerland, and Haiti. Trinity has been and is an example of the fortitude and desire of Cook County residents to be and to welcome hands-that-give, pray, and work.
Trinity’s first church building was on what is now North Road. In 1949, a newer building, designed by Arnold Flaten and Ed Sovik of St. Olaf College, was constructed alongside the recently built Highway 61.
Area residents were joined by visiting college students in the effort. For Trinity’s recent addition, work was begun in 2016.
First imagined by architect Willis Schellberg (with his wife Jurine, seasonal residents) the project included local contractors and North House Folk School. Through this collaboration the Trinity community of faith has constructed a place of beauty that will provide many ways to widen ministry and support neighbors.
Trinity welcomes visitors to “Come and See….” at any time, and especially on August 12 during the dedication, open house, and opportunity for light lunch. Worship service begins at 9 a.m. with the dedication and open house to follow at 10 a.m.
If you can’t make the early service, the church will be open from noon to 1:30 p.m., as the open house will continue.
