The MNsure open enrollment period begins in less than one month. To ensure Minnesotans are prepared to shop and enroll in coverage starting November 1, MNsure is highlighting some important information:
Open enrollment is shorter this year — don’t miss out on coverage.
MNsure’s open enrollment period for 2020 health and dental coverage will be seven weeks long — beginning November 1, 2019, and ending December 23, 2019. Minnesotans should note that open enrollment is shorter than previous years and all those who enroll during open enrollment will have a start date of January 1, 2020.
MNsure assisters are ready to help — schedule an appointment today.
MNsure has a statewide network of expert assisters who can help Minnesotans apply and enroll, free of charge. The assister can be a navigator or a broker.
Locally, Sawtooth Mountain Clinic has a navigator to help people navigate the MNsure health coverage options. Thousands of Minnesotans are using the MNsure website to compare plans, shop and enroll in coverage.
MNsure is the only place to qualify for financial help that can help save money on monthly premiums, or no or low-cost coverage through Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare. Sign up December 23 for coverage that starts January 1. If you need help, call Sawtooth Mountain Clinic and ask to set up a meeting with the navigator at 387-2330 extension 153.
Financial help is only available through MNsure
Nearly 75 percent of uninsured Minnesotans— over 250,000 people—in 2017 would have been eligible for financial help through MNsure.
A single person earning nearly $50,000 a year, or a family of four earning up to $103,000 a year may qualify for help.
“If you’re not sure whether you qualify for financial assistance, we encourage you to come to our website to find out,” said Clark. “Many people think they make too much money to take advantage of these financial benefits, but sixty percent of people buying plans through MNsure qualify. We don’t want anyone to leave money on the table – the average tax credit is over $5,500 per household.”
Minnesotans can get an estimate of their eligibility for financial help and compare plans by using the MNsure plan comparison tool beginning October 15.
Please note that while 2020 plans will be available to view on Oct. 15, Minnesotans will not be able to enroll until Nov. 1.
Account improvements coming this fall
On November 1, Minnesotans enrolling in private health coverage on MNsure will see improvements to our shopping and enrollment platform, making it easier for consumers to select the best coverage for their family.
Minnesotans will have more control over their account with better self-service. The new account dashboard will help consumers stay informed and make necessary account updates faster and without having to speak to a representative. For example, enrollees will be able to log in to their account and easily adjust the amount of tax credits applied to their monthly premium, without having to make a phone call.
With the new platform comes improved navigation and a more user-friendly online shopping experience. Minnesotans can easily compare available medical and dental plans, view their shopping cart, and enroll in a plan. Once enrolled, Minnesotans will be able to verify their plan enrollment and view enrollment details for each member of their family, as well as view important notices from MNsure through a secure inbox.
MNsure-certified assisters will have access to the new enrollment platform, allowing them to easily walk clients through the shopping and enrollment process.
Finally, the new platform will streamline information sharing between MNsure and insurance companies, which means faster enrollment processing and quicker access to enrolled medical and dental coverage.
Current MNsure private health plan enrollees should keep an eye on their mail for important notices regarding renewals.
MNsure’s seventh open enrollment period runs November 1, 2019, through December 23, 2019. More information can be found on MNsure.org.
