Time to say goodbye and thank you to this wonderful community, and it’s not easy. Although 8½ years here means I’m still one of the new kids on the block, it has been home in the midst of incredible natural beauty and a community of people that cannot be replaced.
It’s been a privilege to market Grand Marais to visitors, and to develop your brand from a pretty face on the North Shore to “Only in Grand Marais”— claiming your rightful place as one of the best harbor villages in the country. And, it’s been exciting to expand that brand countywide and invite everyone to “Do North.” We know that spending time here is life changing.
Baltimore beckons with family and new opportunities. But I have learned so much here about values and a lifestyle that may not be as obvious in a larger environment. I hope to hang onto those things for many years to come.
Sure, Baltimore has a harbor, but I don’t think the sun and moonrises are jaw dropping, the rainbows probably can’t be seen end-to-end. And although it’s known as Charm City, I doubt it comes close to the charm of this place.
The “Baltimore or Bust” party is this Sunday evening at the Art Colony. Please come to say goodbye, hear Pete Kavanaugh’s great music, eat, drink and make merry. It’s been a long winter—though a short span of time to call Grand Marais home.
With gratitude,
Diane (Brostrom) Lesman
