I encourage everyone to speak up as Holly Bruce did, sharing her support for broadband. But when you attack someone who is not involved in government, you should have your facts straight or you may find yourself in a courtroom.
Ms. Bruce suggests I’m anti-broadband, choose to live in isolation and may resent “townies” and tourists. What a beautiful imagination.
I’m pro-broadband. In fact, I’m trying to get photos in order to start a website for my business. I work in homes and businesses built by and for tourists and locals, making me pro-tourism, pro-business and prodevelopment. I choose not to use slang like “townies.” Ms. Bruce can use it when she is wrongly judging people and putting words in their mouths.
I also support letters by Bob LaMettry. Arrowhead is an electric company, not an Internet company. It’s a risk and I feel that Arrowhead should have polled their co-op, as I feel more county and city issues should be decided by the people through referendum, as was the one percent tax.
However, I feel commissioners have mishandled the one percent tax from the start, despite the referendum. They have entered the gray area too many times in the name of one percent.
An example is a commissioner suggesting that the senior center may lose county funding if they don’t move. No other entity or department was warned of a budget cut, in fact, Commissioner Sobanja warned of a budget increase. It appears that senior citizens were targeted and left feeling threatened and worried, scared and not sure of their future.
Because of this, I support talks in voter District 3 to decide if we want to recall Commissioner Hakes.
One percent projects were meant to bring the community together, but due to the county board’s rhetoric, it’s dividing the community.
