To Cook County residents: We write to you to let you know that the Boreal Access board and staff enthusiastically support the opportunity of the 1% Cook County sales tax and encourages you to vote YES to both questions on the upcoming ballot.
A ballot has been mailed to every registered voter in Cook County including the City of Grand Marais requesting a yes or no vote on two questions:
1. To impose a 1% Cook County sales tax that would collect up to $20 million to enhance infrastructure in Cook County.
2. To construct and equip a new telephone exchange that would be a Cook County-owned telephone exchange (necessary for constructing a countywide high-speed broadband network).
By checking YES on the ballot you have the opportunity to enhance education, economic development, wellness and the quality of life for all the people of Cook County.
Seven projects have been identified by the 1% sales tax committee made up of your county commissioners, city and township councilors, school board members, local citizens and Grand Portage band members. All projects were chosen by community members to enhance Cook County’s infrastructure.
Please help us and support your neighbors and friends who have brought the dream this far – a once in a lifetime opportunity for Cook County! Vote YES for both questions to create a sales tax AND to construct and equip a new telephone exchange.
By voting YES with us, you create the opportunity to make a difference today and to leave a strong legacy for future generations to come.
