It’s good to get out those bottled up thoughts and feelings that so often accompany a health crisis, and to find some unexpected humor, honesty and comfort. Area residents are invited to join a free six-week session of online journaling groups that begins May 23. Separate, private groups are available for: cancer survivors, stroke and brain injury survivors, ALS and Parkinson’s patients, and the spouses/caregivers/ family of individuals living with these conditions.
The journaling groups are called Reflecting Pools®, and offer a place for private expression and selective sharing among others in a similar situation. Each pool comes with custom writing and reading categories. Participants log in from anywhere with internet access and write and share anonymously, day or night.
The six-week session is closely moderated, and features weekly emails for writing support and inspiration. The stroke and related brain-injury groups will be moderated by Cleo Hutton, stroke survivor and author of After a Stroke: 300 Tips for Making Life Easier.
Cancer groups will be moderated by Lisa McKhann, cancer survivor, writer, and creator of Reflecting Pools.
Thanks to support from area healthcare organizations, Reflecting Pools are offered free to anyone living in northern Minnesota and northern Wisconsin. Support comes from: Miller-Dwan Foundation, Medica Foundation, Blue Plus, Essentia Health, and St. Luke’s Regional Cancer Center. Project Lulu is a Duluth-based nonprofit bringing expressive arts to individuals and communities in need.
