Olya Wright is going to the state Nordic ski meet.
The Cook County sophomore placed fourth in the Girls’ varsity pursuit race at the Section 7 Nordic ski meet held February 9, at Giant Ridge in Biwabik.
The varsity pursuit takes the times from a skate race and a classic race and combines them to pick the places.
The other finishers in the pursuit race for the Cook County/Two Harbors team were: Lamar Gordon placed 32nd, Autumn Smith 22nd, Martine Redshaw was 43rd and Cece Chmelik was 47th.
The North Shore Storm placed sixth out of ten teams in the pursuit race.
Where are the girls from?
Cece Chmelik, Olya Wright, Martine Redshaw are from Cook County and Autumn Smith, Lamar Gordon are from Two Harbors with Valerie Hurth from Cook County the alternate.
The girls’ sprint team was Emma Crook (Cook County) and Jocelyn Carr (Two Harbors). The team skied a time of 21:40, just missing out on chance to ski in the final.
Olya’s fourth place in the Girls’ Varsity Pursuit race earned her the opportunity to ski the pursuit at the Minnesota High School State Meet in Giant’s Ridge on February 16 and 17.
