Oktoberfest at Voyageur Brewing Company raises support for local nonprofits

Voyageur Brewing Company in partnership with the Cook County Community Fund (CCCF) will host its second annual Oktoberfest event from September 27 through October 1. The weekend will include German music, food, games, and Voyageur beer, including the return of Oktoberfest brew.

Voyageur Brewing will donate $1 per pint and 50 cents per half-pint for all purchases of the Oktoberfest brew sold that Wednesday through Sunday to the CCCF. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the exclusive Oktoberfest steins purchased will also benefit the fund.

Voyageur Brewing Company co-owner and CCCF Advisory Board member Ritalee Walters said, “The Cook County Community Fund supports the work of nonprofits throughout our community through educational workshops and grant funding. The opportunity to make a difference and impact the work of so many great causes really appealed to us at Voyageur.”

The CCCF will host its annual celebration at Voyageur on Thursday, September 28 at 5:30 p.m. Cook County nonprofit grantees from 2016 will share stories about the impact of the funding they received, and the group will share 2017 year-end goals.

Jeff Cadwell, co-chair of the CCCF Advisory Board, said, “This is an exciting partnership for us. We hope that sharing in the celebration at Voyageur will bring more visibility to the good work of our county’s many nonprofits so that more residents and regular visitors will donate to the Community Fund, increasing the number of grants we can distribute throughout our community.”

The family-friendly Oktoberfest celebration will include special German fare, including pretzels with a flight of house-made sauces and a full sausage platter. Authentic polka music from Polkarioty as well as accordion sounds from “Squeezy” Wes Miller will provide entertainment for the crowds. Local favorite Plucked Up String Band is set to take the stage from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday. Free games throughout the weekend will include pretzel tosses, stein holds, and a blind beer tasting competition.
