The North Shore Music Association, in collaboration with Birch Grove Foundation, Sugarloaf Stewardship Association, and H.O.B.B.I.T., present a day of fun, high-quality outdoor entertainment to inspire children and their caregivers to get active in the outdoors.

The Aug. 18 event begins at 3 p.m. with a program for children featuring the Okee Dokee Brothers, Minnesota residents and winners of the 2012 Grammy Award for “Best Children’s Album” for their CD Can You Canoe?

The duo will play, talk about their passion for music and the outdoors, and encourage kids to talk, ask questions, and sing along. That will be followed by a “free-choice” time of recommended family activities— from hiking and biking the trail system behind Birch Grove, to a children’s walk and activity at nearby Sugarloaf Cove, to making use of Birch Grove’s green areas and playground. Trail maps will be provided. From 4:30 to 6 p.m. H.O.B.B.I.T. will bake and sell hearth-oven pizza. At 6 p.m. the Okee Dokee Brothers will present an all-ages concert, featuring songs from their Grammy-winning album. In case of rain, any/all activities can be moved into Birch Grove’s indoor facilities.

As childhood friends growing up in Denver, Colo., Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing were always exploring the outdoors. Whether it was rafting down their neighborhood creek, taking long bike rides into the country or discovering hiking trails through the Rocky Mountains, Joe and Justin were born adventurers. Now, as The Okee Dokee Brothers, they have put this passion for the outdoors at the heart of their Americana Folk music. Joe and Justin record and perform family music with a goal to inspire children and their parents to get outside and experience nature. They believe this can motivate kids to gain a greater respect for the natural world, their communities and themselves.

The young duo has gained a national following that is drawn to their witty lyrics, strong musicianship and unique folk style. By appealing to the musical needs of the entire family and recognizing that kids deserve quality music, The Okee Dokee Brothers are working full-time to advance the family music genre.
