Odyssey Resorts purchases Minnesota’s oldest resort

Stepping away from the North Shore, Odyssey Resorts last week announced the purchase of Ruttger’s Bay Lake Resort in Deerwood, Minnesota, Minnesota’s oldest resort.

Founded in 1898, Ruttger’s Bay Lake Resort is located on 500-acres. It has about 150 rooms, cabins, and features lakeside cottages and villas, five pine lodges, two golf courses, indoor and outdoor pools, a marina with rental watercraft, fine dining and casual restaurants, a café, a lounge and a seasonal beach bar. It’s a two-hour drive from the Twin Cities which makes it a quick getaway from the urban sprawl.

With this recent purchase Odyssey Resorts now has nine properties in its portfolio.

In Cook County, Odyssey Resorts operates East Bay Suites in Grand Marais; in Lutsen it owns Caribou Highlands Lodge, Lutsen Sea Villas, and the Mountain Inn. In Lake County (Two Harbors) Odyssey properties include Breezy Point Cabins on Lake Superior, Larsmont Cottages, Grand Superior Lodge and in Duluth, the Beacon Pointe.

In a news release from the company, Odyssey announced that Ruttger’s general manager and other team members will continue their work at the resort.

Blackburn Investment Management is the principal owner of Odyssey Resorts. This is the second time in three years that the Ruttger’s Bay Lake Resort has been purchased.

Plans are to expand lodging and continue to upgrade resort amenities.
