Oddz & Endz gives back to community

Oddz & Endz on the west end of Grand Marais, in the former bowling alley/Howlin’ Wolf Saloon, might be the ultimate nonprofit. Donate something you don’t need and you have more room in your house, closet or garage. Purchase something you want at a deep discount and it saves on your bank account and fills your need.

Either way, the public wins because all of the proceeds from sales are given back to the community.

“We had a substantial increase over last year and are happy to return over $20,000 back into community nonprofits,” said Oddz & Endz organizer EvaLyn Carlson.

Those who volunteer get to choose which nonprofits they support with their time, said Carlson. “And so 19 nonprofits representing Grand Portage, Grand Marais, the Gunflint Trail, Tofte, and Schroeder received grants.”

Over the course of the last year Oddz & Endz participated in a project with WTIP, offered its facility for the Cook County Girl Scouts Father/ Daughter Dance and worked with the Girl Scouts and the Violence Prevention Center to create personal care “care packages” to distribute to domestic violence programs in Cook County and Duluth, Carlson said.

“We are a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit resale store operated totally by volunteers. Our mission is to make a difference in our community by offering the sale of used furniture and household goods at affordable prices.

“We are so grateful for the support of the community in both donations and sales,” she said, adding with a grin, “And remember, the coffee is always on!”
