September was a busy month for the residents at North Shore Health. The residents enjoyed seeing the beautiful fall colors on our outing to Maple Hill, and a lot of time was spent on the patio enjoying those beautiful autumn days.
With cooler temperatures, October will find us doing more baking, especially trying some of those apple recipes. The residents will also be doing some fall crafting, and we will start making items for our annual holiday sale to be held in December. Hopefully, we will see a few more sunny, warm days to spend on the patio too!
On September 23 (National Centenarian Day), we honored our two centenarians. Congratulations to Ione Jones and Honey Rosen for reaching this milestone!
The monthly birthday party will be held on October 10 at 3 p.m. October birthdays include Ophelia Bassett on October 11, along with Rose Hasegawa and Ruth Koscialak who share a birthday on October 22. Cake and ice cream will be served, and Doug Sanders will be here to play piano for the event.
We look forward to our Oktoberfest celebration to be held on October 16. The residents will enjoy a wonderful lunch of sausage and sauerkraut. Vera Schuman will be here in the afternoon to make her delicious “Austrian Apfel Strudel.” The fun will continue with “Oktoberfest Happy Hour” with Hilja at 2:30 p.m.
The residents will be going to the Senior Center on October 18 for a delicious lunch, and to visit with all our friends there.
The Lioness will host a social time on October 20 at 3 p.m. It’s a fun afternoon visiting with our Lioness friends, and enjoying the delightful desserts they provide.
Plenty of music is planned for the month of October too. Amy Schmidt will again be joining us on October 15 at 2:30 p.m. “The Flute Reed Ramblers” will bring their delightful folk ballads to the Care Center on October 22 at 2 p.m. Myron Bursheim will share his musical talents on Sunday afternoons at 2:30 p.m., and Susan Scherer will be here on Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. Portage Band will be back again this month for a dance on October 27 at 6:30 p.m.
We welcome family and friends to join us for any of our activities or music events.
On October 25, the residents will be busy filling treat bags for all the little ghosts and goblins who will visit on Halloween. It is always a “treat” for the residents to see the little ones on Halloween, so please stop by the Care Center between 5-6:30 p.m. on Halloween night! The residents wish all the little “trick or treaters” a fun and safe Halloween.
