Nursing courses to be offered locally

Interested in taking a combined Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide Course?

In cooperation with Cook County Higher Education, Lake Superior College plans to offer a four-credit course in early 2015. Classes will be held at the North Shore Campus and at the North Shore Care Center with instructor Mark Abrahamson.

Students will get work experience in the field during the course, and may qualify to start working while in the course. The course is a prerequisite for most L.P.N. and R.N. courses as well.

Home Health Aides provide routine individualized healthcare for the elderly, convalescents, or persons with disabilities at the patient’s home or in a care facility. Nursing Assistants are responsible for a variety of duties within the medical facility such as encouraging residents with mobility and exercise, making beds, assisting patients with eating, assisting with grooming and hygiene tasks, and providing emotional support for participation in activities.
