Nursing courses offered through Higher Ed

Lake Superior College will offer a four-credit nursing course on Tuesdays and Saturdays this winter if there is sufficient interest. Classes will be held at the North Shore Higher Ed Campus and at the North Shore Care Center.

The instructor is Mark Abrahamson, and there is an $800 fee, plus books. Financial aid is available through loans and scholarships.

Students will get work experience in the field during the course, and may qualify to start working in Cook County while in the course. The course is a prerequisite for most L.P.N. and R.N. courses as well.

Home Health Aides provide routine individualized healthcare for the elderly, convalescents, or persons with disabilities at the patient’s home or in a care facility. Nursing Assistants are responsible for a variety of duties within the medical facility such as encouraging residents with mobility and exercise, making beds, assisting patients with eating, assisting with grooming and hygiene tasks, and providing emotional support for participation in activities. He or she will also check patients’ vital signs, including blood pressure and temperature.
