Nursing Assistant, Home Health training course begins Feb. 17

Cook County Higher Education, in collaboration with Lake Superior College and the North Shore Care Center, will be offering the Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide training course beginning Wednesday, Feb. 17. The classes, taught by instructor Mark Abrahamson, will meet from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday afternoons and two Saturdays beginning Feb. 20 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Lectures will be held at the North Shore Campus in Grand Marais.

In addition, three eight-hour shifts of clinical experience will be offered at the Care Center from April 9 – 11. Makeup classes may be arranged in advance with instructor Mark Abrahamson. This course meets the Certified Nursing Assistant prerequisite for many LPN and RN programs.

The cost for the four-credit course is $539.24 plus books. State certification testing will be an additional fee.

Qualifying students may apply for financial aid through the Northeast Minnesota Office of Jobs and Training. Randy Back will be available to meet with potential students on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at the Cook County Higher Education North Shore Campus. All successful registrants must have a mantoux screening test for tuberculosis within the last year, as well as a background check before class begins. Information packets are available at Cook County Higher Education in Grand Marais. Class size is limited and registration is due in by Feb. 10.
