NSMA Bluegrass Masters at Lutsen Resort this weekend




The North Shore Music Association’s (NSMA) Bluegrass Masters Weekend marks the 26th year of this dynamic wall-to-wall bluegrass event.

Whether you’re a student in Nashville musician Jim Hurt’s guitar workshops, you join jam sessions around the lodge with other musicians or attend the Saturday 8 p.m. concert with the stellar Jim Hurst Trio, you’re sure to have a very good time.

Tickets for Saturday, Nov. 5 workshops: $7/each, $30/full day. Register at the event only. No participant limit. All levels welcome, beginner through advanced.

Tickets for Saturday, Nov. 5 concert with the Jim Hurst Trio, 8 p.m.: $20 adults, $10 youth (18 & under). Tickets for sale at event only, in Lutsen Resort lobby all day Friday and Saturday, and at the ballroom door starting 7 p.m. Saturday.

Hurst is a Nashville musician who’s performed for the past three decades with artists including Holly Dunn, Trisha Yearwood, Sara Evans, and Missy Raines. Hurst joined Claire Lynch and the Front Porch String Band in 1995, and during that time he met Raines. The two of them formed the duet “Jim Hurst and Missy Raines” and recorded two albums that won them the International Bluegrass Music Awards for Guitar Player of the Year and Bass Player of the Year in both 2001 and 2002. Over the years, Jim has also maintained an active solo career and taught workshops all over the country. In 2015 he was nominated for Guitar Player of the Year by IBMA. He has won numerous awards for his work.
