This year marks the 22nd annual North Shore Health Care Foundation Golf Scramble. The event will be held at Superior National Golf Course in Lutsen on October 7 and 8. It will also feature some significant changes from previous years.
Expanding to a two-day event allows for the general fundraiser on Saturday and an optional competitive challenge for the serious golfers on Sunday. In order to compete on Sunday you must play with the same team that golfed on Saturday. Your team will be seeded in flights according to your Saturday score with cash prizes awarded to the winners of all flights.
Saturday however is all about fun…. and fun money. The foundation will raffle off dozens of wonderful prizes including a 58-inch Samsung HDTV, a $940 getaway package that includes four tickets to a Twins game in the Legends section, two hotel rooms at the Renaissance Hotel and the Depot, and two $125 gift certificates at the Monte Carlo restaurant. There are also play and stay packages for golf at Superior National and Caribou Highlands, gift cards from Raven Rock Grill and Valentini’s in Duluth and Chisholm and many many more.
You do not need to be skillful at golf to win these prizes. There are five on course games (blackjack, bean bag toss, guess the number of golf balls, land on the green and chipping) for contestants to enter by using their fun money tickets. Each contest has a $100 winner, and then all the fun money tickets submitted from those contests will go in a tumbler for the raffle prizes.
Saturday’s event starts with registration at 10 a.m. where you can purchase your fun money tickets and enter the skins competition. At 11 a.m. we’ll have a pasta bar buffet provided by Valentini’s Vicino Lago in Duluth. Golf begins at 1 p.m. and once again will feature a $5,000 putting and a $10,000 hole in one contest. Last year Barry Pederson won the $10,000 with an ace on the par three Mountain 5 hole. Following a day of golf there will be an awards luncheon where we’ll recognize the top golfers, award the contest winners and give away the raffle prizes.
Sunday golf begins at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners of each flight and for 10 on course games. It’s designed to be a day of fun and golf with an emphasis on the competitive skills of the teams.
This year the NSHCF received generous donations from Paul and Carol Schaap and Roger and Phyllis Sherman to underwrite the cost of running the event. This means that virtually every dollar raised from sponsors and golfers goes directly to the foundation to be used for grants, programs and operations.
There is still an opportunity to enter a team or individuals to golf in the fundraiser. For more information visit our website www.northshorehealthcarefoundation.org/events. php?eid=504 or call the foundation office at 387-9076.
