Not too late for Thanksgiving:

Thanksgiving:

What is there to be thankful for this year with COVID-19 mucking up friendly socializing, shopping, dining out, sports and theatre? I take time to reflect. Well, I didn’t lock a turkey in the oven this year because there was no family gathering. No sliding off the driveway into a tree because no snow.

While I pride myself in so-called independence, I soon realize that my success is really due to the many folks who have assisted me. A neighbor dug the hole so I could plant the new hydrangea when I could not get a shovel in the ground. I had help with boxes/ bags of recycling, help to corral a groundhog who was excavating the house foundation, help to open heavy doors, help to saw a board, help with tools, help to carry out groceries, help to figure out how to Zoom, help to retrieve a cane and mail dropped to the floor, and even help to put on my shoes.

Shoes?

When I showed up at Joynes to look at shoes on Black Friday, I glanced at my feet to notice I had my own shoes on the wrong feet, right shoe on left foot, etc. Who does such a thing and leaves the house? Without being humiliated, the kind clerk helped me switch shoes. So much for my independence. I am most grateful to be living in a community of thoughtful, kind people. Thank you, community.

Respectfully, Geri Jensen,
Grand Marais
