Not anti-YMCA, but anti-over spending

First let me say that I appreciated Helen Carter’s positive letter to the editor last week in regards to the YMCA. I must say again that I am not anti-YMCA. I am simply against the county spending funds that we haven’t even collected and on top of that have now asked for more of the 1 percent tax not yet collected to cover shortages on this same project.

I will never understand or accept how our county officials ran through these funds so fast, regardless of the concerns of the majority of taxpayers. Total disregard for others and arrogance bother me, not the YMCA.

There was a poll taken…. why take a poll when no one listens to the results? Both in affordability and interest in such a project.

This community that I have lived and worked in for 30 years is in danger of losing its work force. This is another fact that continually falls on deaf ears. I am not talking about the seasonal homeowners or the retired or even the foreign workers. I am talking about the folks who are the working bees of the businesses we all depend on. There is no affordable housing for these people.

We wonder why our schools are on the edge of not supporting itself… duh. There is so much that surrounds the issue of us “naysayers,” it’s not just the YMCA. It’s not rocket science either, math is math, priorities are priorities and they certainly vary depending on those who have the power and money in this county and those who do not.

Open your eyes folks, not everyone is as comfortable as you may be. Why should you care? Because these are the same folks you want to swim in the pool, walk the indoor track etc. Priorities remember.

It’s not a new story; it’s just a repeating one. End of story, sorry to say.
