TheNorthwoods Food Project, a small group dedicated to increasing local foods in our region, is trying to determine local needs for processing meat birds.
Recently, the group identified that there is a growing need for poultry processing in our community. More and more people are raising or are interested in raising meat birds, but there is nowhere to process these animals locally. This is a major hindrance for people considering raising meat birds for local production.
Therefore, the Northwoods Food Project is considering investing in a mobile processing unit that can be checked out individually and used throughout the area. The group would also provide how-to seminars on use of the equipment and bird-raising in general.
If you are interested in the raising/processing of poultry, the Northwoods Food Project is interested in your feedback about whether this is a viable and worthy project and if so, what your use of the unit would be. You can pick up a copy of the survey at the library, community center or Chicago Bay Marketplace.
