The Cook County YMCA youth swim team has made a big “splash” this year for their results in the pool.
After several months of hard work, a lot of laps, several swim meets where they worked on improving their swimming stroke, kick and lowering their times, 12 kids qualified for the Minnesota YMCA state swim meet. A great accomplishment for a small squad.
According to Jen Schuler, Cook County’s YMCA Aquatics Director, the kids season began in October. Practices were held Mondays and Thursdays for one hour. “Some kids also practice Wednesday mornings,” she added.
Adult coaches for the team include Emily Breaker, Kathryn Ramberg, Jeff Latz, Steve Surbaugh, and Kristen Carlsgaard. All of the coaches are also fine swimmers, and some compete in adult Y swimming events.
The Minnesota YMCA state swim meet will be held Sunday, February 19 at the University of Minnesota.
