Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness (NMW) will hold its annual meeting at Split Rock Lighthouse State Park, in the Trail Center picnic shelter, on Sunday, October 18 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
NMW Vice-Chair Sally Nankivell of Grand Marais said, “We would love to have a good turnout from Cook County. We would like to receive input from the Cook County community.”
The annual meeting agenda includes a Superior National Forest Centennial Celebration presentation by US Forest Service Representatives Duane Lula, recreation and wilderness program director, and Ann Aschwaller, wilderness specialist.
Nankivell said there would also be a brief business meeting, cake, coffee and socializing. From 3:30 – 4:00 p.m., attendees are invited to join a special group tour of the historic Split Rock lighthouse.
NMW was formed in 1996 to “continue the local tradition working to protect our wild places against ever increasing public and commercial pressures so that the natural features and processes that exist in the area will remain intact for future generations.”
