With the Swain cross country meet coming up (this weekend) and the Polar League conference meet at home on October 10, North Shore Storm varsity cross country coach April Wahlstrom elected to rest her girls’ and boys’ varsity for the Hibbing Invitational that was held Thursday, Sept. 27.
With the varsity not running, younger kids got their chance to step up and run in the featured races.
Here are the results for the girls’ 5K varsity. The top Storm runner was Isabel Schottenbauer who placed 61st in 23:38. The next finishers in order were Brooklyn Smith, 82nd, 24:22; Anna Hay, 100th, 25:49; Robin Henrikson, 102 , 25:53; Sidni Hendren, 111th, 26:32; Cecelia Chmelik, 113, 26:58; Payton Dobin, 116, 27:24; Elsa Garry, 181st, 29:28; Saira Smith. 187th, 30:01; Greta Roth, 190th, 30:19; Taylor Peppinger, 202nd, 31:25; and Abbey Stoddard, 204 on 34:07.
Boys 5K varsity
Tanner DeBoer placed 88th in 20:14. Chance Hanel was 102 in 20:56; Keegan Morrison, 103 in 20:57; Jonah Schmidt placed 112 in 22:00, Austin Lincoln placed 129th in 23:38; and Hayden Johnson finished 132nd in 26:33.
Middle school girls 3200 meters
Jocelyn Carr was the top middle school girl finisher for the Storm with a 31st place in 14:59. Lizzy Dover placed 35th in 15:12; Kylie Viren finished 36th in 15:23; Shawanda Everson was 40th in 16:03; and Amanda Haveri placed 47th in 17:44.
Middle school boys 3200 meters
Brayden Schmidt was the top boy, placing 26th in 12:49. Tighe McHugh finished 56th in 13:49. Silas Brandt was 60th in 14:03; Haddon Taylor placed 74th in 15:19; and Conner Miller finished 78th place with a time of 20:29.
Polar League meet
The North Shore Storm will once again host the Polar League cross country meet which will be held on Wednesday, October 10 at the Pincushion Mountain ski trails. The first race will start at 1 p.m. with the junior high boys and girls. The girls’ varsity/JV race begins at 1:30 p.m. and the gun goes off for the boys’ varsity/JV race at 2 p.m. Come out and cheer on the North Shore Storm!
