North Shore Storm runners win again

North Shore Storm boys and girls both won the team competition for the second week in a row, and neither team competition was close.

And for the second week in a row, the cross country meet was held at Pincushion with competition from Carlton- Wrenshall and Cromwell. The meet was held Thursday, September 10.

Noah Foster of Cromwell took the top spot in the boys’ race, completing the hilly 5K course in 17:28.5. Foster, a sophomore, won by a whopping 42 seconds! Finishing in the next five places behind Foster were North Shore Storm runners Nate Bilben (18:10), Isaac Swanson (18:16), Jack Riley (18:19), Ian Thorpe (19:00), and Kevin Viren, 19:07). Tate Crawford was the sixth runner on the team to break into the top ten with a ninth-place finish. Tate completed the course in 19:52.

Cromwell ninth-grader Emaleigh Olesiak won the girls’ race by more than one minute, crossing the line in 20:51. The next nine finishers were North Shore Storm runners. Leading the team was Cedar Gordon (21:58), Louise Ramberg (22:08), Lamar Gordon (22:21), Emma Cid (22:25), Malin Anderson (22:47), Autumn Smith 22:56), Anna Hay (23:55), and Olya Wright (24:22).

The North Shore boys first five places added up to 20 points. They defeated Carlton-Wrenshall 20-55. Cromwell didn’t field a full team.

The North Shore Storm girls’ team also tallied 20 points to Carlton- Wrenshall’s 43.

Coached by April Wahlstrom, the North Shore Storm is made up of runners from Two Harbors, Silver Bay and Cook County.
