North Shore Storm runners perform well at the state cross country meet



 

 

Four kids, two boys and two girls from the North Shore Storm cross country team qualified for the state cross country meet run November 5 in St. Olaf, Minnesota.

The North Shore Storm is made up of athletes from Cook County, Silver Bay and Two Harbors.

Cook County High School Junior Olya Wright placed 37th in the Class AA field. Olya ran the hilly 5k in 19:41.4.

Senior Lamar Gordon placed 50th in the competition, crossing the finish line in 19:59.1.

Lynn Scazelli of St. Paul Highland Park was the Class AA winner with a time of 17:45.1. The fastest time of the day came from 3AAA winner Abbey Nechanicky of Wayzata. Abbey ran an incredible time of 16.47.7 to win by a large margin. She is the 5th ranked girl in the U.S.

Boys

Ian Thorpe capped of his senior year by taking 26th at state with a time of 16:38.6, his best performance of the season. Cyrus Myers finished 120th with a time of 17:52.9.

Rock Ridge High School from Virginiana, on the Iron Range, led all area schools with a second place finish in Class AA. Rock Ridge lost the team title by two points to Mankato East.

 

 

Two-time state mile champ Cameron Stocke lost the individual race to Emmert Geres of Belle Plain. Geres winning time was 15:13.7 while Stocke ran 15:24 to place second.

Class AAA winner Aidan Jones from Minneapolis Washburn ran the fastest time overall but just barely. Jones ran 15:11.8, a great time on the St. Olaf course.
