North Shore Storm perform well at Proctor



The combined Cook County, Silver Bay, Two Harbors cross country boys’ and girls’ teams have had a good season so far. The Cook County/Two Harbors cross country girls’ team placed second in the Class AA 2021 Proctor Lions Cross Country Invitational that was held October 19.

Leading the team was Olya Wright in fifth, Autumn Smith in sixth and Lamara Gordon in seventh. Anna Hay placed 13th and Jocelyn Carr took 22nd to round out the team scoring.

London Smith finished 22nd and Trinity Giddings 29th.

The race was won by Hibbing sophomore Mileena Sladek, who ran the 5K distance in 20:23. Olya was about 35 seconds behind her.

Nate Bilben led the boys’ team with a fourth-place finish. Nate ran 17:29. The winner was Miles Fischer from Cloquet who crossed the line in 16:57. Ian Thorpe placed seventh, Clay Thorpe 22nd, Elijah Smith 29th, Brayden Schmidt 33rd , Kyler Hansen 34th and Cyrus Myers 40th. The boys took fourth while Cloquet won the Class 2A race.

Seventh grader Sierra Geatz won the 5K JV race with a time of 22:44. Amery Oberg placed ninth, Brianna Monson tenth, Claire Lindstrom eleventh, Cecelia Chmelik 16th and Shawnda Everson placed 18th.

The girls’ junior varsity placed third while Hibbing won the race.

The girls’ junior high team placed fifth. Leading the way was MJ Wharton who placed 23rd. Signe Myers finished 26th, Zoey Kacures 27t, Amelia Saamanen was 28th, Leah Belmore 32nd and Patience Sifferath was 42nd.

Nick Swarts (3rd) and Keean Selin (4th) led the boys’ junior varsity to a third-place finish. Swarts and Selin ran 20:06 and 20:07 for the 3.1-mile 5K race. AJ Mattson took 18, Ben Obinger 23, Jonah Schmidt 26, Adam Oberg 27, Isaac Schmidt 28, Edwin Erickson was 29, Grant Oberg 33, Andrew Hallberg 35, Finn Taylor 37, Rylan Brown. 57, Robert Rodriguez 62, and Odin Hansen placed 67.

The boys’ Junior High placed fifth in a large field. Goshi Dimitrov took 14th with a time of 9:52 for the shorter race. Eddie Larson was on second behind but four places back in 18th. Talon DeBoer placed 28, Ethan Fish was 29th, Elias Pszwaro placed 31, General Higgins was 32nd, Erik Gischia took 36, Sidney Litterest finished 48, Eero Moody placed 54th, Lute Jansen was 59th, and Reed Cruikshank placed 62nd.
