North Shore Storm girls win conference crown

Louise Ramberg’s fourth-place finish at the Polar League Conference cross country meet held at Pincushion helped her North Shore Storm team to victory.

When tabulated, the Storm’s top five runners finished with 53 points, just ahead of Esko’s 59 points.

Erika Fox, a senior from Carlton, blistered the rugged 5k (3.1 miles) course in 20 minutes and 6 seconds to finish first. Ramberg completed the race in 21 minutes and 43 seconds.

The meet was run on Wednesday, October 12 on a somewhat rainy, cloud-splashed day in cool but not cold temperatures. In other words, perfect weather for cross country.

Under the direction of head coach April Wahlstrom, Ramberg, who is in eighth grade, is rapidly improving along with her teammates who include Autumn Smith, who placed 7th, Cedar Gordon 8th, Maya McHugh 12th, Molly Thomas 22nd, Kate Walsberg 27th, and Isabel Schottenbauer 32nd.

Varsity Boys

Ethan Olson of Moose Lake/Willow River/ Barnum ran away with the title, winning in an excellent time of 16 minutes and 41 seconds. Esko won the team title with 36 points to Moose Lake/Willow River/ Barnum’s 41 points. The Storm placed third with 51 points.

 

 

North Shore Storm runner Jake Paron, who has been suffering from injury, placed third in 17 minutes and 39 seconds; well off the time he recorded earlier in the year when he beat Olson by 20 seconds on the same course.

Other top Storm runners were Noah Smith in 5th, Will Surbaugh in 7th, Brenden Seipke in 20th, Leif Anderson in 21st, Mikael Overby in 22nd, and Sam Libby in 24th.

J.V. Boys

The junior varsity boys’ team placed second with 50 points while Moose Lake/ WR/Barnum won with 28 points.

JC Holman was the Storm’s top finisher in 10th place. Jron Tamanaha was 12th, Andy Kern 16th, Jack Viren 17th, Christian Beamer 18th, David Blackburn 21st, Sam Meyer 22nd, and Lynden Blomberg was 26th.

Junior Varsity Girls’ results

Esko won with 25 points while the Storm finished second with 32 points.

Robin Henrikson was the first Storm runner across the line in 8th place. Hot on her heels was Brooklyn Smith in 9th, Paige Gries in 10th, Amelia Roth 12th, Hazel Babcock 14th, Daphne Lacina 16th, and Lucy Callender 21st. Junior High Girls’ results

The Storm, junior high girls’ team, placed second with 45 points to Esko’s first place score of 24 points.

Top Storm finishers were Ariana Poyierer in third, Cecelia Chmelik was fifth, Saira Smith sixth, Zoe Nonemacher 11th, Ellen Callender 12th, Sidni Hendren 13th, Anna Hay 14th, Payton Dobin 15th, Aurora Schelmeske 17th, Chloe Blackburn 18th, Amanda Haveri 19th, Abbey Stoddard 22nd, Greta Roth 23rd, Garry Elsa 24th, Jaymie Kirk 25th, and Megan Larson 26th.

Junior High Boys’ results

Kevin Viren’s fourth place helped his team to a second-place finish to Moose Lake/WR/Barnum, who won with a low score of 28 to the Storm’s 50.

Other Storm finishers included Tate Crawford fifth, Eli Schlangen 11th, Trent Spry 14th, Jonah Schmidt 16th, Chance Kinstrand 28th, Justin Paron 29th, Levi Nelson 30th, DeBoer Tanner 31st, Doran Acero 32nd, Jack Willis 33rd, and Lucas Pinnell was 39th.
