Since the North Shore Rollers can no longer practice outdoors, they are moving indoors—to the Grand Marais Municipal Pool.

The North Shore Rollers, those energetic young people seen rolling and splashing in the log rolling pool in downtown Grand Marais during the Fisherman’s Picnic in August are back at it. Log rolling practice began at the Grand Marais Municipal Pool on Sept. 27. Anyone is invited to come give log rolling a try!

Log rolling practice is tentatively set for Monday and Tuesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There may be additional practices announced at a later date.

Anyone interested can try the first two practices for free, and if you wish to continue, pay the $50 team fee and become a “North Shore Roller” or donate $5 to the program for each practice until you have reached the $50 total.

Grand Marais Fusion is the North Shore Roller sponsor, and once you learn to roll and decide if you want to become a dedicated team member, you will receive a Grand Marais Fusion North Shore Roller T-shirt.

The coaches—Jenny Atkinson, Julie Collman, and Vicki Shaw—invite everyone to come down to the pool for some fun and exciting action on the logs. It’s a great way to stay in shape during the winter months and learn a new skill.

Log rolling is awesome for balance, agility, strength, endurance, and concentration! Participating will help you in all other sports. For those that want to take it to a competitive level, there are tournaments held throughout the year. Please contact Collman for more information at (218) 370-0790.
