Four members of the Cook County Community YMCA North Shore Rollers log rolling team attended the Rusty Ankle log rolling tournament in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on Sunday, May 3 and everyone came away with some hardware.

In the U-10 speed-birling division Taylor Everson finished second. Rollers get one minute to see how many times they can spin the log in complete rotations with each rotation worth one point. Taylor finished with a score of 27.

In the U-10 girls log rolling event there was a three-way tie for third place that ended up being determined by who had the fewest falls in their matches. Once the falls were counted, North Shore Roller Ali Duclos finished third with her teammate Taylor in fourth place. Both Ali and Taylor showed they are getting better and better with each competition.

Once again Paige Everson rolled well in a strong field of U-13 girls, finishing third overall. Paige also finished in third place in the U-13 speed birling.

After some time away from the top of the podium, Wellesley Howard-Larsen placed first in the U-17 girls log rolling division. Wellesley also placed third in her division in speed birling.

Two tournaments and a lot of practice remain before the World Championships take place in Hayward, Wisconsin in late July. The North Shore Rollers will have more kids at that tournament and everyone will have their fast feet on display at their host tournament the following week at the Fisherman’s Picnic.
